I'm new guy here, playing for only 3 years, and most of that time, I spent making maps and playing singleplayer campaign and bot matches. I believe that we should support Tesseract, because I think that's what E considers to be a good arena shooter. Imagine what would that game be if E added more weapons and singleplayer campaign, when he gets interested in that aspect of it...

Well, I believe that Sauerbraten needs to be more simple than it is now, and Tesseract was step in good direction in my humble opinion, but it got hate because it had less weapons. Simple, how? Well, we don't need to have shaders for normal, specular and displacement maps, but we should have nicely rendered shadows like in Tesseract, so you don't have to calculate lights every time you move a cube. In terms of source code lines, it's more, but in terms of game itself, it's less. We don't need 1000 textures (and all those shading maps for them), 1000 new maps, alongside 1000 old maps that weren't updated or removed. I remade Cube 1 maps like 'frag' and 'hellgate' and Cube 2 maps like 'pgdm' and 'oddworld', but I doubt they'll ever be downloaded from Quadropolis, let alone get in next release...

I hope we'll get there eventually...

Hey there. I think I do remember you. I can relate a lot to how you feel! You are not alone :)
I also have a house, car, relationship and a really cool job as software developer for industrial applications.
However, when it comes to "real life" achievements. I think I would trade these in for the good old days of Sauerbraten anytime.
I believe we can create new communities that revive the old feeling of Sauerbraten. I try to do this with a project called inexor that should feel like sauer, but be a lot more open to the community.
By occassion, it also happens I am 28. Seems like this is where mid-life crisis happens. So feel free to cry! It is important to do so.
I think I know Sauerbraten for as long as ~13 years now. I wish I could revive the same groups of people of back then like Sinsch, who I also did a lot of competitive forts with. It was great!
